Scope

This policy applies to the FuelFinderAus website, installable web app, public forms and private owner administration area. It does not control the privacy practices of external websites, mapping services, fuel retailers or other services you open from FuelFinderAus.

Information we handle

Searches, location and journeys

You may search using a preset area, typed suburb or town, street address, journey endpoints or your device location. A device location is used to centre the requested search and is not saved to a FuelFinderAus user account, suggestions database or analytics record. FuelFinderAus does not place precise device-location coordinates into a shared search link; select a suburb or town before sharing. Typed location and journey searches are processed to find coordinates or calculate a route.

Information saved only in your browser

Fuel type, search area, search size, filters, excluded brands and vehicle settings may be stored locally and used in requests needed to provide results. Discount card or brand names, discount amounts, favourites, observed prices and private station notes stay in your browser and are not included in FuelFinderAus search, routing or sharing requests.

Anonymous usage totals

We may record a broad preset area, fuel type, event type, counts of filters and results, and a whitelisted campaign category such as media, community or partner when a promotional link supplies one. For a recognised campaign link, one anonymous landing count and one first-search completion total may be recorded for that campaign category during the browser session. This avoids treating repeated searches in one visit as separate campaign conversions. If you interact with the commercial enquiry form, one anonymous enquiry-start total may be recorded per browser session; merely loading the advertising page is not counted. A completed commercial enquiry creates a separate anonymous completion total. These totals may retain the broad campaign category but do not contain the enquiry’s business details, a full referring URL, journey addresses, precise coordinates, contact details or an advertising identifier.

Suggestions and station updates

General suggestions contain the category and note you submit. Station updates contain the station, update category and factual details you provide. These forms do not request a name or contact details. Please do not include personal, customer, account, payment or confidential business information.

Commercial enquiries

If you enquire about advertising or sponsorship, we collect the business name, contact name, work email, optional phone number and website, relevant station or area, your message and consent so the owner can assess and respond to the enquiry. When you arrived through a recognised promotional link, the enquiry may also include its broad campaign category, such as media or partner, but not the full referring page.

Security information

Hosting and security providers may process standard technical request information. FuelFinderAus may turn a network address into a one-way, short-lived token to limit spam and abuse. Raw network addresses are not stored in the suggestions or analytics database.

How information is used

• Provide fuel searches, maps, location matching and journey comparisons.
• Remember choices on your device.
• Measure broad, anonymous service usage and identify unsuccessful searches.
• Moderate suggestions and station updates before anything is changed publicly.
• Respond to commercial enquiries and manage any resulting business relationship.
• Prevent abuse, protect the website and investigate operational problems.

We do not sell personal information, precise locations, routes or saved preferences to advertisers or sponsors. Paid placements do not receive access to individual visitor searches.

Service providers and disclosures

FuelFinderAus relies on service providers to operate the website. Depending on the feature you use, information may be processed by hosting and security providers, HERE for location search and routing, Resend for owner notification emails, and the owner’s email provider. Fuel-price information comes from Service Victoria, NSW FuelCheck and WA FuelWatch. Feed requests are made by our server; these providers do not receive your typed NSW or WA suburb search or your contact details from those requests.

Maps load tiles from OpenStreetMap, which receives the network information needed to serve the tiles, including your IP address and the map area. NSW, WA and national journey maps load only when you choose to show the map, without requesting your device location. The national journey planner sends address searches and route coordinates to HERE through our server. It does not save journey addresses or put them in page URLs. Personal discounts are calculated in your browser; national favourites are saved only on your device. Directions links open Google Maps when selected. These providers operate under their own terms and privacy practices and may process information outside Australia. Information may also be disclosed where required by law, to protect the service or its users, or as part of a legitimate transfer of the website subject to appropriate protections.

Storage, security and retention

Anonymous usage records are designed to be removed after 90 days. Short-lived abuse-prevention tokens expire after their rate-limiting window. Suggestions, station updates and commercial enquiries are kept privately for review and response, and are deleted or de-identified when no longer reasonably needed, subject to legitimate business, legal, security or dispute-resolution requirements.

We use access controls, encrypted connections, limited collection, private moderation and other reasonable safeguards. No internet service can guarantee absolute security. Please avoid submitting information the website does not request.

FuelFinderAus may use browser storage and essential hosting or security cookies. A recognised campaign category may be kept only in the current browser tab so it can remain attached as you move between FuelFinderAus pages. It does not currently use third-party advertising cookies or sell cross-site behavioural profiles.

Your choices and rights

• Use a preset area instead of device location.
• Decline or revoke location permission in your browser settings.
• Clear saved FuelFinderAus preferences using the website’s reset control or your browser’s site-data controls.
• Avoid submitting optional suggestions or commercial enquiries.
• Ask about, correct or request deletion of information that can reasonably be identified as yours.

Because general suggestions do not request contact details, we may be unable to identify a particular anonymous submission without enough information to locate it.
